Box Score CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team scored at least three goals for the second consecutive game in a 4-2 victory versus Penn State Behrend University on Wednesday, October 6 at Case Field.
With the win, the Spartans improve to 6-2-3 overall and will return to action this Saturday, October 9, versus University Athletic Association rival New York University at 1:30 p.m. at Case Field. With the loss, the Lions fall to 6-2-3.
The Spartans got on the board early in the first half when sophomore midfielder Ross Twanmoh (Fallston, MD/Fallston) scored his first collegiate goal via an assist from sophomore midfielder Eric Erb (Worthington, OH/Thomas Worthington) in the 14th minute. The assist was Erb's team-leading fourth of the season.
PSU-Behrend evened the score in 21st minute on a penalty kick by Josh Teti but the Spartans quickly re-gained the lead in the 28th minute when junior defender Niro Wimalasena (Mason, OH/Mason) scored his first career goal on a free kick from 30 yards out.
Case added to its lead near the end of the first period when junior forward Vinny Bell (Parma Heights, OH/Valley Forge) scored his team-best fifth goal of the season following a cross from senior midfielder Mikey Schmid (Oberlin, OH/Oberlin) in the 41st minute.
The Lions cut into the lead in the 64th minute with a rebound goal from Jake Gamble before Case added an insurance score in the 87th minute when senior midfielder Jordan Fox (Bexley, OH/Bexley) deflected in a score following a long free kick by sophomore defender Sam Kuehnle (Toledo, OH/Ottawa Hills).
In goal, junior Ben Yabrow (Marietta, GA/George Walton Comprehensive) totaled four saves. Chris Bolea made six stops for PSU-Behrend.
For the game, Case outshot the Lions, 14-8, while PSU-Behrend held an 11-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Following Saturday's match versus NYU, Case hosts UAA-foe Washington University (MO) on Friday, Oct. 15, at 7:30 p.m.
