Spartans Score Season-High Four Goals in Win at Wooster

WOOSTER, Ohio – Four different players scored as the Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team totaled a season-high in goals in a 4-1 victory at the College of Wooster on Wednesday, October 20 at Carl Dale Field.

With the win, the Spartans improve to 8-4-3 heading into a Senior Day matchup with Westminster College on Saturday, October 23 at 7:30 p.m. at Case Field in Cleveland. With its loss, Wooster falls to 6-4-3 overall.

Wooster got on the board first with a Yousef Aliakbar goal in the 12th minute. Case answered in the 20th minute when senior midfielder Jordan Fox (Bexley, OH/Bexley) scored his sixth goal of the year via an assist from freshman midfielder Dominic Carusone (Kettering, OH/Dayton Carroll).

The Spartans moved ahead just over a minute later when junior midfielder Kyle Alsup (Monroeville, PA/Detroit Country Day) found the back of the net for the second time this season.
Case then added to its advantage in the opening minute of the second half when junior forward Vinny Bell (Parma Heights, OH/Valley Forge), the reigning University Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Week, scored his team-best ninth goal. Senior forward Mikey Schmid (Oberlin, OH/Oberlin) added his first goal of the year in the 72nd minute to bring the final to 4-1.

In goal, junior Ben Yabrow (Marietta, GA/George Walton Comprehensive) started and played the first 81:59 to record his seventh win of 2010. Sophomore Ryan Koepka (Venetia, PA/Peters Township) came on for the final 8:01 to close out the victory. Wooster's Taylor Takacs played the full 90 minutes and recorded four saves.

For the game, Case outshot Wooster, 13-3, and held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.

Following Saturday's regular season home finale versus Westminster, Case returns to action on Friday, October 29 at UAA-foe Carnegie Mellon University at 7:30 p.m. in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
