Box Score WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior midfielder Jordan Fox (Bexley, OH/Bexley) scored a pair of goals as the Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team won its University Athletic Association opener, 3-2, versus Brandeis University (MA) on Saturday, October 2 at Gordon Field.
With the win, the Spartans improve to 5-2-3 overall and next host Penn State-Behrend University on Wednesday, Oct. 6 at 5:00 p.m. With the loss, Brandeis falls to 6-3.
Fox scored the game's first goal in the 18th minute on a header via an assist from sophomore midfielder Eric Erb (Worthington, OH/Thomas Worthington). Following a Brandeis goal by Alexander Farr in the 38th minute, Erb added a score of his own in the 41st minute on a header off of a long throw-in by sophomore midfielder Kostis Theoharides (Brookline, MA/Brookline) to make the score 2-1.
Fox scored his second goal of the game in the 51st minute off of a redirected free kick from sophomore back Sam Kuehnle (Toledo, OH/Ottawa Hills) to stretch the lead to 3-1. A score in the 61st minute by Brandeis' Luke Teece narrowed the lead to a one goal margin, but the Spartans were able to hang on for their first conference win since 2008.
For the game, Brandeis outshot Case, 18-14, and held a 10-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Case junior goalkeeper Ben Yabrow (Marietta, GA/George Walton Comprehensive) and Brandeis' Taylor Bracken each finished with four saves for the contest.
The Spartans' next UAA game is Saturday, Oct. 9 versus New York University at 1:30 p.m. at Case Field in Cleveland.
