Box Score CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team dropped a tough 1-0 overtime decision to No. 11-ranked (NSCAA) Washington University (MO) on Friday, October 15 at Case Field.
With the loss, the Spartans fall to 6-4-3 overall and 1-2 in the University Athletic Association. Case is right back in action this Sunday, Oct. 17 at home versus another UAA-foe in the University of Chicago (IL) at 1:30 p.m. The Bears stay unbeaten at 10-0-3 and 2-0-1 in the UAA.
The two teams played to a scoreless first half with neither side able to generate much of a scoring threat. The second half was more of the same until several Washington shots late. The Bears came close to scoring the game-winner with just over three minutes left in regulation, but Case junior goalkeeper Ben Yabrow (Marietta, GA/George Walton Comprehensive) made a fine leaping save to keep the contest tied.
In the overtime period, Washington's Cody Costakis sent a through ball to Dylan Roman who was able to beat charging Yabrow for the game-winner in the 92nd minute.
For the game, Washington outshot the Spartans, 16-2, and held a 13-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Following Sunday's match versus UC, the Spartans return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 20 at the College of Wooster at 3:30 p.m.
