John Tsironis enters his third season as an assistant coach at CWRU in 2021-22.

Following a year away from collegiate competition due to the pandemic, six Spartans earned UAA All-Academic honors and one was named a National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III Scholar All-American. The team finished 18th in Division III in team GPA, earning a NWCA Scholar Team Award for the fifth consecutive season.

The Spartans capped off their 2019-20 campaign with six dual meet victories, two UAA Champions, 11 wrestlers earning All-Academic UAA honors, and two NWCA Division III Scholar All-Americans. The squad was recognized as the 2020 NWCA Scholar All-American Team Champions for the nation's highest GPA. The Spartans also had the No. 1 overall team GPA in the nation across all wrestling divisions in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA in 2020, with a GPA of 3.817.

From 2010-12, Tsironis was the strength and conditioning coach for the Beachwood Bisons wrestling team, helping them earn an eighth-place finish in 2011 and a sixth-place finish in 2012, at the Ohio High School Division III State Tournament. Tsironis helped develop five state place winners, and a state champion in the process.

Tsironis has coached at every level; most notably he was the head strength and conditioning coach for the Cleveland Gladiators of the Arena Football League from 2008-10. Prior to that, Tsironis coached for three seasons (2005-07) as a strength and conditioning assistant for the NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals, helping them win the 2005 AFC North Championship.

As a wrestler, Tsironis was a member of the Ohio State University wrestling team in 1986-87. He was also a member of Athletes In Action wrestling team; representing AIA in the 1986 Espoir US Open in Freestyle at 62 kilos, and the 1987 Men’s Senior US Open in Greco-Roman at 68 kilos., where he was a Greco-Roman US World Team Trials alternate in 1987. Tsironis placed third at the 1985 Virginia Open at 134 lbs.

During his senior year (1989) at Ohio State, Tsironis became the WPC World Record Holder in the Non-Strict Bicep Curls, sanctioned by the World Powerlifting Congress. Tsironis curled 180 lbs. for 8 reps, and 200 lbs. for a 2-rep max, in the 67 kilos /148-pound weight class.

In the strength & conditioning profession, Tsironis holds his national sports performance certification from USA Weightlifting, as a Certified Level 1 Sports Performance Coach. He has been USAW certified since 2002.

Tsironis, a Cleveland, Ohio native, graduated from The Ohio State University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts, and a Master of Divinity from Memphis Theological Seminary in 2003.
