Warren Miller enters his 13th season at CWRU and 11th as defensive coordinator/ outside linebackers coach in 2025.
Miller's defenses have consistently ranked among the best in the conference during his time with the team. Most recently, the 2024 group ended the year ranked 12th in Division III in total defense (243.8 yards per game) and 33rd in scoring defense (16.6 points allowed per game), while the 2023 unit was 12th among Division III teams in points allowed per game (13.2) and 22nd in yards allowed (258.1) as senior defensive end Kaden Tong and junior defensive back Dominic Sais each claimed all-region honors. In 2019, Miller helped mentor senior defensive end Cameron Brown to become the first two-time PAC Defensive Player of the Year in conference history, while both junior linebacker Travis Johnston and senior safety Patrick Crossey were also named to the All-PAC First Team. He helped Brown earn All-America and PAC and UAA Defensive Player of the Year honors during the 2018 campaign, as the defensive end finished second among Division III players in sacks per game. Miller's 2017 unit was one of the best in the Presidents' Athletic Conference, leading the league in points allowed per game (17.8), total yards allowed per game (289.6), and rushing yards allowed per game (121.8). Brown and linebacker Justin McMahon both earned All-PAC First Team honors, while seven other CWRU defensive players were named to either the second team or an honorable mention. Miller was also a part of the UAA Coaching Staff of the Year during the season for the second time in his career.
In 2016, the Spartans' defense allowed just 18.7 points per game, the second-lowest mark in the conference and 37th-best in all of Division III. He oversaw the development of D3football.com All-Region Second Team selection Nick Kwon, as five CWRU defense players claimed All-PAC honors during the campaign. In his first season as the team's defensive coordinator, Miller's unit finished 15th among all NCAA Division III squads in rushing defense (100.2 yards per game), holding opponents to 22.4 points per game. Ten of his players earned All-PAC honors in 2015.
Miller’s first two seasons with the program were spent as special teams coordinator/linebackers coach, and in 2013 his unit produced the UAA Special Teams Player of the Year.
Before joining the staff at University Circle, Miller spent five seasons as the linebackers coach at NCAA Division II Walsh University. He also served as an athletic academic advisor from 2010-12 as well as Director of Compliance and Eligibility from 2007-10.
Before his time in North Canton, Miller served for three seasons (2005-07) in a defensive quality control position at the University of Minnesota. During his time on the staff, the Gophers appeared in a pair of bowl games.
Miller also served as a graduate assistant and tight ends coach at Walsh from 2003-05 as well as a student assistant for offensive linemen and tight ends at his alma mater, Baldwin Wallace University, from 2001-03.
Miller graduated from BW with a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration. He and his wife Bryn live in Olmsted Falls with their three sons, Warren, William, and Wade.
