First Quarter

  • CWRU got on the board later in the quarter on a 19-yard field goal by junior kicker Gabriel Petrozzi with 2:50 left in the stanza that capped off a nine-play, 44-yard drive.

  • Senior defensive lineman Joseph Swarm had a strip sack on Stahl with 25 seconds left in the opening frame that was recovered by Reilly, giving the Spartans the ball back on the Presidents' 30-yard line.

Second Quarter

  • On the second play of the quarter, DeTillio found Stack open in the back corner of the endzone to give the Spartans a 10-7 lead.

  • CWRU remained in front until the 4:22 mark when Washington & Jefferson's Kobe Derosa ran for a 13-yard touchdown to put the Presidents in front 14-10.

  • An interception on the Spartans' next possession led to another rushing touchdown by Derosa and gave Washington and Jefferson a 21-10 lead with 1:01 to play in the half. The Presidents would remain ahead by 11 heading into the break.

Third Quarter

  • The Spartans reached the Washington and Jefferson side of the field on their opening drive of the second half, but a fumble cost CWRU possession and led to a touchdown for the Presidents, who pushed their lead to 28-10 with 10:00 to play in the third.

  • CWRU had a response, as DeTillio ran for 31 yards on second and 10 from the Spartans' 20-yard line and completed a 39-yard pass to graduate student wide receiver Brian Caldwell Jr. on the next play to get into the red zone. Two plays later, the Spartans' offensive line helped move the pile into the endzone on a DeTillio scoring run from a yard out, cutting the Presidents' lead to 28-17 with 6:38 on the clock.

Fourth Quarter

  • The Spartans' defense locked in during the fourth quarter, holding the Presidents scoreless on 35 yards and forcing three punts in the frame to give the team a chance.

  • However, CWRU would not be able to get on the board in the frame, and a late fumble with 1:53 left on the clock gave Washington & Jefferson the ball back and allowed them to run out the clock.
