The Spartans dropped to 11-1-1 overall and 1-1-0 in University Athletic Association play. The Bears remained undefeated and improved to 12-0-1 this season and 2-0-0 in the UAA.

Stats and Standouts

  • Sophomore Ellie Palaian saved a season-high six shots, playing all 90 minutes in goal
  • Welker led the team with three shots and senior Ceci Dapino added a pair of attempts

First Half

  • The Bears challenged Palaian early, sending a shot her way that required a save in the third minute
  • About 10 minutes later, a WashU attempt hit the woodwork, keeping the game scoreless
  • The visitors finally broke through in the 20th minute on a goal by Ella Koleno off a blocked shot
  • WashU doubled its advantage in the 34th minute, scoring on a strike by Olivia Clemons
  • Both teams had chances for the rest of the period, but neither was able to add to the score

Second Half

  • CWRU started attacking early in the second half, earning a corner kick five minutes into the period
  • In the 65th minute, Welker put the Spartans on the board with a one-touch shot into the top corner of the net
  • Probst found Welker close to the goal from the endline, sending a pass past two defenders to set up the goal

  • Just a few minutes later, Sassower sent a long looping shot that nearly snuck into the goal for the tying score
  • Welker nearly tied the score in the 67th minute, hitting the frame with a shot
  • The Spartans had a pair of chances late in the contest, earning two corner kicks in the 84th and 85th minutes

Four of the eight UAA schools ranked in the top six, with WashU placing fourth. NPI is used by the NCAA to determine at-large selections and seedings for the national championship in November
