The 13th-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team lost in the University Athletic Association Championship Semifinal 5-0 to the fourth-ranked University of Chicago on Saturday afternoon at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
The fourth-seeded Spartans will match up against third-seeded WashU in the Third-Place Match., and the top-seeded Maroons will advance to the UAA Championship match to face second-seeded Emory on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. In the other semifinal, Emory defeated WashU 5-3.
Chicago swept the doubles to take a 3-0 lead. At first doubles, juniors Hannah Kassaie and Lily McCloskey, ranked fourth in Division III, fell to top-ranked Rena Lin and Oliwia Mikos, 8-4. Senior Pallavi Goculdas and junior Anna Kan lost to Lauren Khou and Sarena Biria 8-5 at third doubles, and junior Radha Patel and sophomore Katalina Wang fell to Shianna Guo and Sylwia Mikos, ranked eighth in the country, 8-1.
Needing just two singles wins to advance to the championship match, the Maroons won matches at fifth and sixth singles to defeat the Spartans.
CWRU dropped to 14-5 on the season and 1-1 in UAA contests with the loss, while Chicago improved to 17-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
