The Spartans then sent 10 batters to the plate in the top of the fourth, scoring seven runs in the inning to take a 9-3 lead by the end of the frame. Graduate student second baseman Franco Alonso turned a one-run deficit into a one-run lead with a one-out, two RBI double, and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Anderson to increase the team's lead to 5-3. Powers then followed with a two-RBI double, and a two-run home run by Harms increased the Spartan advantage to six runs.

After CWRU added a run to its lead with an RBI single from Andreyko in the top of the fifth, the Violets tied the game in the bottom of the inning with three runs, and then took the lead with three more runs in the bottom of the sixth.
CWRU would not score again in the game, as the Violets were able to hold on for the win.
