Behind eight season-best times from members of the squad, the Case Western Reserve University women's cross country team registered a fourth-place finish out of 17 teams at the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational at Liberty Park in Powell, Ohio on Friday night.

The Spartans finished with a score of 112 points, placing behind Ohio Wesleyan (44), Allegheny (54), and the Ohio State Running Club (99). Mount Vernon Nazareth rounded out the top five teams, placing just behind CWRU with a score of 112 points.

Junior Arianna Holbrook placed 13th out of 176 finishers in the women's 6K race, crossing the finish line in a time of 22:57.8. It marked the first time in her career that she was the Spartans' top finisher. Junior Julia Hluck added a 17th-place finish in a time of 23:04.9, while sophomore Pimada Phongsuriya was 21st with a mark of 23:30.3. Completing the team's scorers were first-year Ciara Ledford, who was 30th overall in a time of 23:40.4, and first-year Becca Liaw, who was 44th in a time of 24:01.0

Rounding out CWRU's top seven finishers were first-years Cecilia Postma (55th, 24:31.8) and Julia Walko (58th, 24:37.9). Senior Mandy Lam added a 64th-place finish in a time of 24:48.9, while first-year Anna Feland (108th, 26:07.0) and sophomore Angie Getz (149th, 28:18.7) also competed on Friday.

Ashland's Lily Dowdell won the women's 6K with a time of 22:03.6.

The Spartans will be off from competition next weekend for returning to action at the Mike Woods Invitational in Geneseo, New York on Saturday, October 19.

• The CWRU women were ranked 10th in the latest USTFCCCA Great Lakes Regional poll.

• Six Spartans - Phongsuriya, Ledford, Liaw, Postma, Walko, and Lam - recorded career-best 6K times on Friday, while Holbrook and Hluck each notched their season-best time at the distance.
