The Case Western Reserve University women's cross country team placed fifth at the 2022 University Athletic Association Championship, hosted by Emory University at the Nash Battlefield Farm in Hampton, Georgia on Saturday morning.

The Spartans, who received votes in the latest USTFCCCA rankings, finished the meet with 133 points. Nationally top-ranked Chicago won the meet with a score of 36, followed by seventh-ranked WashU (46), 23^rd-ranked NYU (78), and 21^st-ranked Emory (118). Following the Spartans in the standings were Carnegie Mellon (171), Brandeis (184), and Rochester (214).

First-years Ashley Novak and Lauren Iagnemma narrowly missed all-UAA honors in the 6K race (awarded to the top-14 finishers). Novak placed 15^th overall out of 75 finishers with a season-best time of 22:37.1 and was followed closely behind by Iagnemma, who notched a time of 22:41.5. The duo were the third and fourth first-year runners, respectively, in the field to cross the finish line.

Junior Grace Jackson was the third Spartan runner to finish, finishing 29^th with a season-best time of 23:11.5. Senior Julia Kocherzat added a 33^rd-place finish with a season-best mark of 23:18.0, and senior Catherine Phillips placed 54^th overall with a time of 24:00.1 to complete the team's five scorers. Rounding out the top-seven for CWRU were senior Melissa Phung (57^th, 24:06.9) and first-year Julia Hluck (60^th, 24:11.9), while junior Jessica Kwasny (64^th, 24:29.1) and first-year Anna Avila (70^th, 25:04.4) also completed the race on Saturday.

Emory's Annika Urban won the meet with a time of 21:14.4.

The Spartans are scheduled to be back in action next Friday, November 4, at the Wooster Twilight 5K in Wooster, Ohio.
