Martinez won the 141-pound bracket at the Adrian Invitational in Adrian, Michigan, on Saturday to begin the 2023-24 season. Martinez went 3-0 on the day with two pins to emerge as the bracket's champion. In the quarterfinal, he defeated Ryan Yocum of Saint Vincent by fall in 4:15. Martinez followed with an even quicker win in the semifinal, pinning Adrian's Sam Ross in 0:46 seconds. In the final bout of the afternoon, he bested Adrian's Tanner Smith by decision, winning 7-2. Martinez, ranked fourth in the Central Region at 141 pounds by the NWCA, improved to 3-0 this season and 37-12 for his career. The Spartans placed fourth at the meet with 128.5 points.
