Barnes helped to lead the Spartans to a 5-1 win over Emory University in the second game of a doubleheader on Friday. Barnes entered the game with CWRU holding a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth inning and went on to retire the first 14 batters he faced before issuing a two-out walk in the ninth. It was the only blemish against him in an otherwise perfect five-inning relief outing, during which he struck out seven batters, despite facing a team that entered the weekend ranked among the top-20 teams in Division III in runs scored. Barnes earned the win in the game, improving to 3-1 with a 4.34 earned run average, and has allowed just 13 hits and two walks while striking out 22 in 18 and two-third innings over seven appearances this year. The Spartans won three of the four games during the weekend series with the Eagles to improve to 17-9 overall with a 6-2 record in conference games.
