Lindemann Leads Spartans at NCAA Regionals with All-Region Finish

Case Western Reserve University senior Madeline Lindemann earned all-region honors for the second-straight year to help lead the Spartans to a ninth-place finish out of 34 teams at the 2019 NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Championship at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Saturday afternoon.

Lindemann placed seventh overall in the field of 233 runners to punch her ticket as an individual selection to the NCAA Championships for the second-straight year.  She crossed the finish line of the course, which was run approximately 400 meters shorter than the usual 6K distance due to course conditions, with a time of 21:35.0

The finish was a three-spot improvement for Lindemann from last year's meet, where she finished 10th overall.

Overall, the Spartans finished with an aggregate team score of 239.  John Carroll won the meet with a score of 83, one point ahead of Baldwin Wallace in second place with 84 points.  Oberlin rounded out the top-three teams with a score of 110.

Sophomore Jana Fisher was the second Spartan to cross the finish line, placing 40th with a time of 22:32.8, and was followed by first-year Melissa Phung in 60th place with a time of 22:59.2.  Completing CWRU's top-five were first-year Danielle Sarno in 62nd place with a time of 23:00.6 and junior Kiera Olson in 70th place with a time of 23:05.3.

Other finishers on Saturday for CWRU were junior Grace Kemerer, who was the 74th finisher in a time of 23:09.4, and sophomore Susanna Henry, who was 86th overall with a time of 23:21.5.

Trine's Evie Butemeyer was the top individual finisher at the meet with a winning time of 20:58.4.

The field for the NCAA Division III Championships, to be held in Louisville, Kentucky on Saturday, November 23rd, will be officially announced on Sunday, with individual and team selections to be posted on ncaa.com no later than 3:00 p.m.  More information on the CWRU athletes selected and on the meet in general will be posted to athletics.case.edu on Sunday as well.
