No. 23 CWRU Women Finish Seventh at Inter-Regional Rumble

The Case Western Reserve University women's cross country team, ranked 23rd in Division III, finished seventh out of 32 teams at the 2019 Inter-Regional Rumble, hosted by Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio on Saturday.

Senior Madeline Lindemann was the team's top finisher of the 8K race, placing 16th out of 283 runners with a time of 22:08.9.  Sophomore Jana Fisher was the second Spartan to cross the finish lane, placing 39th with a time of 22:46.2, and junior Kiera Olson was close behind, finishing 43rd with a time of 22:52.8.  Rounding out the top-five, sophomore Susanna Henry and first-year Melissa Phung crossed the line together, with the former placing 65th in a time of 23:08.7 and the latter notching a 66th-place finish with a time of 23:09.0.

Other finishers in the varsity women's 6K for CWRU included first-year Danielle Sarno (82nd, 23:18.6), junior Grace Kemerer (97th, 23:26.2), junior Olivia Battistoni (120th, 23:45.6) and senior Vanessa Pasadyn (142nd, 24:08.2).

The Spartans finished the meet with a total of 229 points.  Oberlin won the meet with a score of 104, followed by Bates in second place with 112 points and John Carroll in third with 142 points.

Later in the day, the Spartan women claimed a team win in the open 6K race, finishing first out of 25 teams with a score of 98 points.  Edgewood finished second with 102, followed by Loras in third with 138 points.  CWRU's top finisher in the race was first-year Rae Dwyer, who finished seventh out of 239 total runners with a time of 23:38.6.

The Spartans will now turn their attention towards their championship season.  After a week from competition, the Spartans will travel to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for the 2019 University Athletic Association Championships on Saturday, November 2nd.
