CWRU Women’s XC Finishes Fifth at Knight Invite

The Case Western Reserve University women's cross country team registered a fifth-place finish out of 24 teams at the 2019 Knight Invite on Saturday morning, hosted by Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

CWRU finished with an aggregate team score of 153 in the varsity 6K race.  Hillsdale won the race with a score of 84, followed by Oberlin in second with 116 points, Aquinas in third with 129, and Grand Valley State in fourth with 132.

For the second-straight race to start the season, sophomore Jana Fisher was the Spartans' top finisher, placing 14th out of 200 runners with a time of 22:37.46.  Freshman Stephanie Wroblewski was the second CWRU runner to cross the line, placing 24th overall with a time of 22:49.41, and junior Kiera Olson was 39th overall with a time of 23:12.44.  The final two scorers for the Spartans were sophomore Susanna Henry, who was 47th overall with a time of 23:21.39, and freshman Melissa Phung, who placed 50th with a time of 23:25.61.

Other finishers in the varsity race for the Spartans included junior Grace Kemerer (64th, 23:38.29), junior Olivia Battistoni (71st, 23:53.36), senior Vanessa Pasadyn (73rd, 23:53.36) and sophomore Julia Kocherzat (103rd, 24:22.30).

Evie Bultemeyer of Trine was the top overall finisher in the race, crossing the line in a time of 21:29.05.

CWRU also had a number of competitors in the open 6K race, including freshman Danielle Sarno, who was the team's top finisher, placing sixth out of 130 runners with a time of 24:15.3.

Case Western Reserve will be back in action next weekend, traveling to Meadville, Pennsylvania for the Gator Invitational on Saturday, September 14th.
