CWRU Women’s XC Secures 14th-Place Finish Overall, Second in DIII, at All-Ohio Meet

Competing in a 6K race for the first time this season, the 24th-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's cross country team placed 14th overall and second among NCAA Division III teams at the 2018 All-Ohio Championships, hosted by Akron in Norton, Ohio on Saturday afternoon.

Toledo ran away with the overall women's race, placing four runners in the top 10 to total a score of 32.  Walsh (105) placed second in the team standings, followed by Wright State (106) in third.  Otterbein (52) was the top-finishing Division III team, followed by the Spartans (118).  A total of 38 women's teams, including 17 Division III teams, competed at Saturday's All-Ohio Championships.

Junior Madeline Lindemann led the Spartans with a 43rd-place finish out of 307 total competitors in the event, and eighth out of 142 Division III runners.  She crossed the finish line with a time of 22:46.8, marking the third time through three meets this season and the fourth time overall in her career that she has been CWRU's top finisher at a meet.

Sophomore Kiera Olson was the team's second finisher, placing 65th overall and 13th among Division III finishers with a time of 23:12.8, a near two-minute improvement on her time at the meet last year.  Three seniors rounded out the Spartans' top five, with Ellen Sears finishing 104th overall (29th DIII) with a time of 23:49.7, Jennifer Hoffmann placing 106th overall (30th DIII) with a time of 23:51.3, and Marissa Miyagi finishing 116th overall (38th DIII) with a time of 23:58.8.

Junior Vanessa Pasadyn was 135th overall (49th DIII) with a time of 24:17.9 and senior Sophie Trikeriotis completed the team's top-seven, placing 138th in the race (51st DIII) in a time of 24:20.5.  Also competing for the Spartans on Saturday were senior Isa Torres-Padin (140th overall, 52nd DIII, 24:23.5) and freshman Julia Kocherzat (142nd overall, 54th DIII, 24:27.2).

Toledo's Athena Welsh won the women's 6K race with a time of 21:01.5, while Otterbein's Claire Lamb was the top Division III finisher with a mark of 21:49.5.

Later in the day, freshman Susanna Henry was the team's top finisher in the women's open 6K race, finishing 30th overall in the field of 175 runners with a time of 24:29.2.

The Spartans will be off from intercollegiate competition next weekend, as the team hosts its annual Alumni Race at the Squire Valleevue Farm on Saturday, October 6th.  Case Western Reserve will then travel to Oberlin, Ohio for the Inter-Regional Rumble on Saturday, October 13th.
