CWRU Women Finish Second at Yellowjacket Invite

The Case Western Reserve University women's cross country team placed three runners in the top-10 and five in the top 13 on Saturday morning at the Yellowjacket Invitational in Rochester, New York to place second in the team standings at the meet.

CWRU finished with a team score of 45, finishing only behind Elizabethtown, which ended the meet with a score of 25 points.  The RIT women rounded out the top-three teams with a score of 106.

The Spartans' top runners kept in a close group through the early going of the 6,000-meter race, with junior Jennifer Hoffmann, senior Danielle Kulpins, sophomore Madeline Lindemann and sophomore Vanessa Pasadyn crossing the 2,000-meter mark together in fourth through seventh place.  By the 4,000-meter mark, Kulpins had moved into second place, with Lindemann following closely behind in third.  Kulpins would wind up as the Spartans' top finisher, placing fourth overall out of 191 finishers with a mark of 22:58.0, followed by Lindemann in seventh-place with a time of 23:16.9 and Hoffmann in ninth with a time of 23:31.2. Completing the team's top-five were Pasadyn, who finished 12th with a mark of 23:40.0, while junior Isa Torres-Padin crossed the line just over a second later, placing 13th with a time of 23:41.6.  Senior Claire Plunkett (28th, 24:24.9) and freshman Olivia Battistoni (30th, 24:28.6) rounded out CWRU's top seven competitors in Rochester on Saturday.

Elizabethtown placed the top-three runners in Saturday's race, including senior Brenna McNamee, who won the event with a time of 22:42.3.

Case Western Reserve also had three runners compete in the open 6,000-meter race at the Inter-Region Rumble in Oberlin, Ohio, led by sophomore Mallorie Mitchem with a 17th-place finish in a time of 25:32.6.

The Spartans will be off next weekend, as the team gears up for the 2017 University Athletic Association Championships, hosted by New York University in Woodland Park, New Jersey at Garret Mountain Reservation on Saturday, October 28th.
