Case Western Reserve University seniors Danielle Kulpins and Rachel Laveson were the squad's top finishers on Friday afternoon, helping to lead the Spartans to a third-place finish among Division III teams and a 14th-place finish overall at the 2017 All-Ohio Championships in Cedarville, Ohio.
CWRU, ranked eighth in the Great Lakes Region entering the weekend, finished the meet with a score of 84 points, finishing behind only first-place Otterbein (ranked fifth in the region, 33rd in DIII) and second-place Kenyon (ranked fourth in the region, 26th in DIII). Completing the top-five Division III teams at the meet were Mount Union (seventh-ranked regionally) and Ohio Northern (sixth-ranked regionally).
Kulpins placed sixth among the 148 Division III finishers and 51st overall among the 343 total runners with a time of 22:55.1, while Laveson added a 15th-place DIII finish and 83rd-place finish overall with a mark of 23:17.3. Two other Spartans were among the top-20 Division III runners to cross the finish line, with sophomore Madeline Lindemann coming in 19th (95th overall) with a time of 23:25.1 and junior Jennifer Hoffmann following closely behind in 20th place (96th overall) with a time of 23:25.4. Junior Isa Torres-Padin was the Spartans' fifth finisher with a mark of 23:33.1, good for 24th in DIII and 106th overall.
Completing CWRU's top seven were sophomore Vanessa Pasadyn (28th DIII, 120th overall, 23:44.7) and senior Claire Plunkett (45th DIII, 149th overall, 24:07.7), with freshman Cara Giannuzzi (62nd DIII,172nd overall, 24:36.0) and junior Sophie Trikeriotis (83rd DIII, 198th overall, 25:04.5) adding to the list of Spartan finishers in the race.
The top Division III finisher was Otterbein's Claire Lamb with a time of 21:57.7, while Walsh's Sarah Berger won the overall race with a course-record time of 20:52.0. Dayton finished first in the overall team standings.
The Spartans will be off from intercollegiate competition next weekend, returning to action on Saturday, October 14th at a pair of meets – the Yellowjacket Invitational in Rochester, N.Y. and the Inter-Regional Rumble in Oberlin, Ohio.
