Volleyball to Host Heidelberg in Non-Conference Matchup

The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team will return home this week to welcome Heidelberg University to Horsburgh Gymnasium on Thursday, October 10th for a weeknight matchup. The match is slated for a 7:00 p.m. start.

CWRU Spartans (6-12, 1-4 UAA)

The Spartans posted a 1-1 record this past weekend at the second University Athletic Association Round Robin in Atlanta, Georgia. The Spartans picked a win over Brandeis University in the early match, but fell to 14th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University in late affair.

Junior middle hitter Katie Kaminski recorded a team-high 27 kills throughout the two matches and posted a team-best .348 hitting percentage. During the team's 3-2 victory over Brandeis, Kaminski totaled a season-high 19 kills on 41 total attempts for a .415 hitting percentage. Junior libero Jana Giaquinto led CWRU with 60 digs (6.00 per set), and also tallied four assists and two service aces. Against Brandeis, Giaquinto led the team with a career-high 36 digs.

Heidelberg Student Princes (17-3, 2-0 OAC)

The Student Princes went 2-0 this past week, as they picked up wins against Kenyon College and Wilmington College. Heidelberg will travel to Bexley, Ohio on Tuesday to take on Capital University, before heading up to Cleveland to face the Spartans on Thursday.

Taylor Valentine currently leads Heidelberg with 2.77 kills per set and has also averaged 3.85 digs per set. The Student Princes offense has been setup this season by Anna McNabb, as she has averaged 6.21 assists per set. Defensively, Heidelberg is led by Sarah Oney with 5.24 digs per set.

Spartan Notes

Junior Katie Kaminski currently ranks fifth in the University Athletic Association with a .339 hitting percentage…The two teams last met during the 2018 season when Heidelberg earned a 3-0 win over the Spartans…Case Western Reserve is averaging 11.24 kills per set, 10.37 assists per set and 1.56 blocks per set this season.
