On Sunday at the University Athletic Association Round Robin #2, the Case Western Reserve University volleyball team split, with a win over Brandeis University and a loss to 14th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University.
The second UAA Round Robin was hosted by Emory University at the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Spartans moved to 6-12 overall and 1-4 in the UAA, while the Judges are 4-11 overall and 1-3 in the UAA and the Tartans record is now 15-3 overall and 3-1 in the UAA.
CWRU defeated Brandeis in five sets 25-16, 23-25, 25-16, 20-25 and 16-14.
Junior middle hitter Katie Kaminski led the Spartans with a season-high 19 kills on 41 total attempts for a .415 hitting percentage. Senior outside hitter Brianna Lemon contributed 18 kills to the attack. Senior Faith Ellis and freshman Sara Rogers split the setting duties, as each recorded 23. Defensively, junior libero Jana Giaquinto tallied a career-high 36 digs, while Lemon and Kaminski registered 19 and 18 digs, respectively.
Against the Tartans, CWRU fell 20-25, 25-17, 15-25, 25-11 and 15-10.
Kaminski led the squad with eight kills and Ellis added 19 assists. Lemon contributed seven kills to the attack, while Giaquinto led the team with 24 digs.
Case Western Reserve will return to non-conference action this week, as they welcome Heidelberg University to Horsburgh Gymnasium on Thursday, October 10th. Game time is slated for a 7:00 p.m. start.
