CWRU Volleyball Set to Play in the UAA Round Robin #2 on Sunday

The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team will be traveling to Atlanta, Georgia for the 2019 University Athletic Association Round Robin #3, hosted by Emory University, on Sunday, October 6th.

The Spartans are slated to play Brandeis University at 10:00 a.m. and then 14th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University at 12:00 p.m. to conclude the second University Athletic Association Round Robin hosted by Emory University.

CWRU Spartans (5-11, 0-3 UAA)

The Spartans are eager to return to the court after picking up a win over Oberlin College last Saturday. Led by senior outside hitter Brianna Lemon and junior middle hitter Katie Kaminski, who average 2.42 and 2.25 kills per set, respectively. Senior middle hitter Haley Sims also contributes to the attack averaging 2.21 kills per set, while also leading the squad with 0.89 blocks per set. Setting for the Spartans is senior Faith Ellis, who records 4.78 assists per set for the Spartan offense. Lemon tallies 3.47 digs per set, while junior defensive specialist Jana Giaquinto records 2.52 a set.

The Spartans are guided by Head Coach Karen Farrell in her 18th season at CWRU along with Associate Head Coach Nelson Wittenmyer. She is also assisted by Jeff Harrah, Kim Waters and Dani Witri.

Brandeis Judges (3-10, 1-2 UAA)

Junior middle hitter Belle Scott averages 2.79 kills per set and senior middle hitter Emma Bartlett adds 2.69 kills per set. Junior setter Marissa Borgert leads the Judges in assists, averaging 6.98 per set. Defensively, sophomore defensive specialist Kaitlyn Oh picks up 4.38 digs per set. Brandeis is scheduled to host Worcester Polytechnic Institute on Thursday, before facing the Spartans on Sunday.

The Judges are under the leadership of Alesia Bennett in her sixth season and she is assisted by Kayla Gromen and Caitlyn Straubel.

#14 Carnegie Mellon Tartans (14-3, 2-1 UAA)

The Tartans are led by senior middle blocker Erika Foose. Foose averages 2.38 kills per set and 0.95 blocks per set. Senior setter Maia So-Holloway averages 6.42 assists per set. In the back row, senior libero Kayla Yew is tallying a team-high 5.02 digs per set.

Carnegie Mellon is coached by Anne Bock in her first season. Bock is assisted by Natalie Cohen.
