The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team dropped a four-setter to New York University in the final match of the 2019 University Athletic Association Round Robin #1 hosted by Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts.
The Spartans (4-11, 0-3 UAA) conclude a tough, opening weekend of conference action and will look to get back in the win column when they travel to Oberlin, Ohio to face non-conference opponent Oberlin College on Saturday, September 28th at 2:00 p.m. The Violets (12-3, 1-2 UAA) won by scores of 25-18, 15-25, 25-17 and 25-18.
Offensively, junior middle hitter Katie Kaminski led the Spartans attack with 13 kills on 29 total attempts for a .310 hitting percentage. Senior setter Faith Ellis recorded a team-best 18 assists, while freshman setter Sara Rogers added nine.
On defense, senior outside hitter Brianna Lemon totaled a team-high 20 digs, while Ellis contributed 16 to the team total.
New York was led by Haley Holz with 13 kills and Nicole Dao with 21 assists and 11 digs.
All eight UAA teams played a total of three matches this weekend. The squads will convene again in two weeks for two more matches at the UAA Round Robin #2 in Atlanta, Georgia on October 6th. Case Western Reserve is scheduled to face Brandeis at 10:00 a.m. and Carnegie Mellon University at 12:00 p.m.
