The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team lost both matches on the first day of competition at the University Athletic Association Round Robin #1. The Spartans were swept by Washington (Mo.) University and fell in three sets to the sixth-ranked University of Chicago.
With the pair of setbacks, the Spartans drop to 4-10 overall and 0-2 in the UAA.
Versus Washington (10-4, 1-0 UAA), the Spartans fell by scores of 25-18, 25-21 and 28-26. Junior middle hitter Katie Kaminski posted the squads top kill total with nine, while senior setter Faith Ellis contributed 17 assists. Defensively, senior outside hitter Brianna Lemon tallied a team-high 12 digs.
Against Chicago (12-1, 0-2 UAA), the Spartans lost the match 25-20, 25-17, 25-18. Kaminski posted a team-high seven kills and registered 13 digs, while freshman Gianna Lambert added six kills on 14 total attempts for a .357 hitting percentage. Ellis talled 12 assists for the match and Lemon led the defense with 14 digs.
Case Western Reserve will conclude play at the first UAA Round Robin in Waltham tomorrow, when the Spartans take on New York University at 10:00 a.m.
