CWRU Volleyball to Host Mount Union on Wednesday

The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team will prepare to host the University of Mount Union for a mid-week match up on Wednesday, September 11th in Horsburgh Gymnasium. The match is slated for a 7:00 p.m. start.

CWRU Spartans (3-3)

The Spartans posted a 1-2 record this past weekend at the CWRU Invitational. On Friday, CWRU defeated John Carroll University with scores of 25-11, 25-16, 25-22. On Saturday, CWRU dropped two tough matches to Muskingum University and SUNY Geneseo.

Senior middle hitter Haley Sims recorded a team-best .414 attack percentage for the weekend. She notched 30 kills and also gathered seven total blocks. In addition, senior outside hitter Karley King tallied a team-high 32 kills (2.67 per set), while senior outside hitter Brianna Lemon added 30 kills (2.31 per set) and a team-high 49 digs (3.77 per set).

Mount Union Purple Raiders (7-2)

The Purple Raiders completed a perfect weekend at the Behrend Invitational in Erie, Pennsylvania, as they went 4-0 throughout the two-day invite. Mount Union earned wins against Fredonia State (N.Y.) and Bethany on Friday, and concluded the tournament with wins against Penn St.-Behrend and Westminster on Saturday.

Junior Madelin DiBease currently leads the Purple Raiders with 95 kills (3.17 per set) and has also tallied 81 digs (2.70 per set) for the season. The Mount Union offense has been set up this season by freshman Katie May (151 assists, 5.21 per set) and freshman Mollie Thomas (133 assists, 4.59 per set). Defensively, the Raiders' are led by freshman Alyssa Kasaris who has collected 151 digs (5.03 per set), while senior Bethany Matuska and senior Marlee Peck have each gathered 16 total blocks.

Spartan Notes

Junior Katie Kaminski currently ranks fourth in the University Athletic Association with a .387 hitting percentage…Last season, the Spartans suffered a 3-0 setback to Mount Union…Senior Haley Sims hit team-best .278 and tied for the team lead with seven kills, while junior Anna Jaskoviak added a Spartan-best 17 digs and senior Faith Ellis contributed 16 assists…The Spartans are averaging 12.14 kills per set, 11.00 assists per set and 1.41 blocks per set this season.
