The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team lost both matches on the second day of competition at the CWRU Invitational. The Spartans fell in five sets to Muskingum University in the early match and lost in five sets to SUNY Geneseo in the late affair.
With the pair of setbacks, the Spartans drop to 3-3 overall on the season.
Versus Muskingum (6-0), the Spartans fell by scores of 17-25, 25-18, 22-25, 25-22 and 15-12. Senior middle hitter Haley Sims posted the squads top kill total with 16, while senior setter Faith Ellis contributed a team-high 29 assists. Defensively, senior outside hitter Brianna Lemon tallied a team-high 16 digs, while Sims totaled a team-best four blocks.
In the second match of the day against Geneseo, the Spartans lost the match 12-25, 13-25, 25-21, 25-22 and 15-9. Junior middle hitter Katie Kaminski posted a team-high 13 kills on 21 total attempts for a .571 hitting percentage. Ellis registered 25 assists for the match, while junior setter Jordyn Harberts added 15 to the team total.
Defensively, Lemon led the squad with 25 digs and junior Jana Giaquinto contributed 20 to the team total.
With the win, Geneseo improved to 3-3 overall in 2018.
Case Western Reserve will return to action on Wednesday, September 11th as the team prepares to welcome the University of Mount Union to Horsburgh Gymnasium. Action is set to start at 7:00 p.m.
