The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team earned two wins at home on Saturday, defeating Denison University 3-0 in the early match and Bethany College (W.V.) 3-0 in the late affair to complete a 2-1 weekend at the Spartans Invitational.
Carnegie Mellon University was named the champions of the Spartans Invite, as they went a perfect 3-0 throughout the tournament.
The Spartans opened the day with a 27-25, 25-18, 25-10 win over the Big Red. Senior outside hitter Karley King, junior middle hitter Katie Kaminski and freshman outside hitter Gianna Lambert paced the CWRU attack as they each totaled eight kills. Senior setter Faith Ellis and junior setter Jordyn Harberts set up the offense, as they registered 20 and 10 assists, respectively.
Defensively, senior outside hitter Brianna Lemon led the squad with 10 digs, while Harberts contributed nine to the team total.
Denison dropped to 0-2 on the season with the loss.
In the second match of the day against Bethany, the Spartans earned a 3-0 win, 25-16, 25-18, 25-22. Lemon paced the team with 10 kills. Ellis tallied a team-high 20 assists, while Harberts contributed 10. Junior libero Anna Jaskoviak led CWRU in digs with 14 and Lemon added 12 to the team total.
With the loss, the Bison fell to 2-1 overall in 2019.
Case Western Reserve will return to action on Friday, September 6th and Saturday, September 7th as the program will host the CWRU Invitational. The Spartans will play its first match on Friday at 5:30 p.m. against John Carroll University.
