The 2018 Case Western Reserve University volleyball team was selected as a recipient of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award, based on the squad's outstanding grade point average during the 2018-19 academic year.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative GPA on a 5.0 scale.
A total of 1,125 teams have earned the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2018-19 season, breaking the previous year's total of 977 to set an all-time high. 175 of the teams honored were NCAA Division III programs, the most honored among college divisions.
The Spartans finished the 2018 season with an 18-14 overall record, while posting a 3-4 mark in the University Athletic Association and finishing in fifth place at the UAA Championships.
Case Western Reserve will kick off its 2019 campaign on Friday, August 30th as they host Kenyon College, as part of the Spartans Invitational on the CWRU campus.
