The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team split its two matches on the second and final day of competition at the University Athletic Association Round Robin #2. The Spartans fell in straight sets to host Carnegie Mellon University, but defeated the University of Rochester (N.Y.) in straight sets.
With the split, the Spartans move to 15-10 overall and 3-4 in the UAA.
Versus Carnegie Mellon (16-6, 5-1 UAA), the Spartans fell by scores of 25-18, 25-19, 19-25 and 25-18. Junior outside hitter Karley King posted the squads top kill total with 12, while junior setter Faith Ellis contributed 23 assists. Defensively, freshman outside hitter Lauren Carmon tallied a team-high 20 digs.
Against Rochester (19-8, 1-5 UAA), the Spartans won the match 25-13, 25-8, 25-16.
King posted a team-high 12 kills on 29 total attempts for a .414 hitting percentage. Ellis registered 18 assists and seven digs for the match. Sophomore libero Anna Jaskoviak led the defense with a team-high 13 digs.
The Spartans will be back in action next weekend as they travel to Deleware, Ohio on Saturday, October 20th. CWRU will open play against Allegheny College at 3:00 p.m. and conclude the day against Ohio Wesleyan University at 5:00 p.m.
