CWRU Volleyball Set to Play in the UAA Round Robin #2 this Weekend

The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team will be traveling to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for the 2018 University Athletic Association Round Robin #2, hosted by Carnegie Mellon University, on Saturday, October 13th and Sunday, October 14th.

The Spartans are set to play New York University at 10:30 a.m. and 12th-ranked Emory University at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. On Sunday, CWRU will face host Carnegie Mellon University at 12:00 p.m. and then the University of Rochester at 2:00 p.m. to conclude the second University Athletic Association Round Robin hosted by Carnegie Mellon University.

CWRU Spartans (13-8, 1-2 UAA)

The Spartans are eager to return to the court after picking up a win over Thiel College in the beginning of the month. Led by junior outside hitter Karley King and sophomore middle blocker Katie Kaminski, who average 3.03 and 2.25 kills per set, respectively. Junior middle hitter Haley Sims also contributes to the attack averaging 2.15 kills per set. Setting for the Spartans is junior Faith Ellis, who records 6.11 assists per set for the Spartan offense. Sophomore libero Anna Jaskoviak tallies 4.76 digs per set, while junior outside hitter Brianna Lemon records 3.29 a set and Ellis adds 2.01 digs per set.

The Spartans are guided by Head Coach Karen Farrell in her 17th season at CWRU along with Associate Head Coach Nelson Wittenmyer. She is also assisted by Jeff Harrah, Kim Waters and Dani Witri.

New York Violets (13-8, 1-2 UAA)

Freshman middle blocker Abby Ausmus averages 2.30 kills per set and senior outside hitter Nazzerine Waldon adds 2.27 kills per set. Freshman setter Stella Alverson leads the Violets in assists, averaging 5.12 per set. Defensively, sophomore libero Jacqueline Kupeli picks up 3.82 digs per set.

The Violets are under the leadership of Andrew Brown in his first season and he is assisted by Rachel Bello and Amanda Colombo.

#12 Emory Eagles (13-5, 2-1 UAA)

The Eagles are led by junior outside hitter Morgan McKnight. McKnight averages 3.04 kills per set and 0.85 digs per set. Senior setter Mady Arles averages 10.05 assists per set. In the back row, junior libero Maureen Schick is tallying a team-high 2.29 digs per set.

Emory is coached by Jenny McDowell in her 23rd season and she is assisted by Brianna Jones, Jona Braden, Kyle Landrigan and Jessica Holler.

Carnegie Mellon Tartans (14-5, 3-0 UAA)

Senior right side hitter Sarah Jurgens and senior outside hitter Lauren Mueller average 3.23 and 3.05 kills per set, respectively. Setting for the Tartans, junior setter Maia So-Holloway is averaging a team-high 9.63 assists per set. Junior defensive specialist Kayla Yew and Mueller serve as the top players in the back row averaging 5.31 and 3.17 digs per set, respectively.

The Tartans are under the leadership of Kim Kelly in her 14th season. Kelly is assisted by Anne Bock and Lauren London-Law.

Rochester YellowJackets (18-6, 0-3 UAA)

The YellowJackets are led by sophomore outside hitter Allie DeRubertis who averages 3.29 kills per set as well as 1.83 digs per set. Junior outside hitter Alara Kocak also contributes to the attack with a team-high 3.31 kills per set. Junior setter Beth Ghyzel serves as the main setter for the YellowJackets averaging 9.41 assists per set. In the back row, junior defensive specialist Sara Apanavicius averages a team-high 3.95 digs per set.

Rochester is coached by Ladi Iya in her 11th season and she is assisted by Roger Majeski and Emily Redman.
