Volleyball to Host Thiel in Non-Conference Matchup

The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team will welcome Thiel College to Horsburgh Gymnasium on Wednesday, October 3rd for a mid-week matchup. The match is slated for a 7:00 p.m. start.

CWRU Spartans (12-8, 1-2 UAA)

The Spartans posted a 2-2 record this past week. CWRU defeated Oberlin College 3-1 on Wednesday, but only picked up one win during the first UAA Round Robin hosted by Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. The Spartans fell to eighth-ranked Washington (Mo.) University and the 14th-ranked University of Chicago on Saturday, but came back to defeat Brandies on Sunday.

Junior outside hitter Karley King recorded a team-high 57 kills throughout the week, while also tallying 14 digs and eight total blocks. During the team's 3-1 win over Brandeis University on Sunday, King led the attack with a season-high 20 kills while hitting .513. Junior setter Faith Ellis contributed 91 assists for the Spartans during the four games, as she averaged 6.50 assists per set. During the team's 3-1 win over Brandeis, Ellis tallied a game-high 31 assists, 12 digs and two service aces.

Thiel Tomcats (8-12, 3-5 PAC)

The Tomcats went 1-3 this past week, as its only win came against Waynesburg University on Saturday afternoon.

Kasey Kohler currently leads Thiel with 137 kills (2.36 per set) and has also tallied 29 digs for the season. The Tomcats offense has been setup this season by Courtney Grubbs, as she has totaled 513 assists (8.02 per set). Defensively, Thiel is led by Peyton Allen with 294 digs (4.74 per set).

Spartan Notes

Junior Karley King currently ranks second in the University Athletic Association with 210 kills, while junior Haley Sims ranks second in the UAA with 1.35 blocks per set…Sophomore Anna Jaskoviak ranks second in the UAA with 327 digs and third with an average of 4.74 digs per set…The two teams last met during the 2015 season when CWRU earned a 3-0 win over the Tomcats…The Spartans are averaging 13.03 kills per set, 12.28 assists per set and 2.14 blocks per set this season.
