CWRU Volleyball to host Oberlin; Play at UAA Round Robin #1 this Weekend

The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team will welcome to Oberlin College to Horsburgh Gymnasium on Wednesday, September 26th at 7:00 p.m., before traveling to Waltham, Massachusetts for the University Athletic Association Round Robin #1 on Saturday, September 29th and Sunday, September 30th.

The Spartans are set to play eighth-ranked Washington (Mo.) University at 12:00 p.m. and the 14th-ranked University of Chicago at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. On Sunday, CWRU will face host Brandeis University at 10:00 a.m. to conclude the first University Athletic Association Round Robin.

CWRU Spartans (10-6)

The Spartans won two out of the four matches played at the No One Fights Alone Invitational, hosted by Heidelberg University, this past weekend. CWRU earned a 3-1 win (25-21, 13-25, 25-20 and 25-21) against Mount St. Joseph College on Friday, and claimed a 3-1 victory (25-13, 25-23, 17-25 and 25-14) over Hanover College on Saturday.

Junior outside hitter Karley King paced the squad with 37 kills over the weekend, while junior outside hitter Brianna Lemon recorded 34 kills and hit .226. Junior Faith Ellis and sophomore Jordyn Harberts set up the Spartan offense, with Ellis tallying 90 assists and Harberts totaling 68. Defensively, sophomore libero Anna Jaskoviak had a team-high 66 digs and junior middle hitter Haley Sims chipped in 15 total blocks.

Oberlin Yeowomen (4-7)

The Yeowomen will enter Wednesday's match coming off a 3-0 loss to third-ranked Wittenberg University on Saturday afternoon. Lexi Mitchell and Sara Chang each recorded a team-high six kills. Chang also set up the offense with 10 assist, while Emily Kelkar added 18 digs.

For the season, Oberlin has averaged 11.6 kills per set, 10.5 assists per set and 1.4 blocks per set. Lexi Mitchell leads the Yeowomen with 128 kills, while Maura Gibbs is close behind with 106. Samantha Lam sets up the offense as she has tallied 218 assists for the season. Defensively, Emily Kelkar has totaled 141 digs, while Mitchell has contributed 79 to the team total.

#8 Washington (Mo.) Bears (9-3)

The Bears have averaged 12.2 kills per set, 11.2 assists per set and 2.0 block per set. Ifeoma Ufondu currently leads WashU with 134 kills and Kirby Knapp has set up the Bears offense with 310 assists. Defensively, Zoe Baxter has recorded a team-high 210 digs, while Julianne Malek has registered 44 total blocks.

WashU will also face Brandeis and Chicago during the first UAA Round Robin. They will face the Judges on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and then conclude the weekend with a match against the Maroons on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.

#14 Chicago Maroons (15-2)

The Maroons have averaged 13.6 kills per set, 12.7 assists per set and 1.4 blocks per set. Sarah Muisenga leads Chicago with 162 kills and Emma Griffith has set up the Maroons offense with 709 assists. Defensively, Katherine Wilson has recorded a team-high 276 digs, while Madison Pearson has registered 34 total blocks.

Chicago opens the first UAA Round Robin against Brandeis on Saturday at 12:00 p.m., before facing the Spartans at 2:00 p.m.

Brandeis Judges (7-5)

The Judges have averaged 11.18 kills per set, 10.29 assists per set and 1.62 blocks per set this season. Emma Bartlett currently leads Brandeis with 122 kills and Marlee Nork has set up the Judges offense with 272 assists. Defensively, Yvette Cho has recorded a team-high 188 digs, while Bartlett has registered 37 total blocks.

Brandeis will open the Round Robin against Chicago and WashU on Saturday, before facing the Spartans on Sunday.
