CWRU Volleyball Heads to Alliance to Face Mount Union on Wednesday

The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team will travel to Alliance, Ohio to face the University of Mount Union for a mid-week matchup on Wednesday, September 12th. The match is slated for a 7:30 p.m. start.

CWRU Spartans (5-2)

The Spartans completed a perfect 3-0 weekend at the CWRU Invitational. On Friday, CWRU defeated John Carroll University with scores of 25-18, 25-17 and 25-11. The Spartans came back on Saturday to open the day with a 25-18, 25-22 and 25-14 win over St. Mary-of-the-Woods College, and followed that up with a 25-16, 25-19 and 25-17 victory over Defiance College to close out the tournament.

Junior outside hitter Brianna Lemon was named the Spartans representative on the All-Tournament team, after recording 31 kills during the three matches. She added 30 digs, while hitting .386.

Mount Union Purple Raiders (8-0)

The Purple Raiders also completed a perfect weekend, as they went 4-0 at the Allegheny Invite in Meadville, Pennsylvania. Mount Union earned wins against Westminster and D'Youville on Friday, and concluded the tournament with wins against St. Vincent and Allegheny on Saturday.

Sophomore Madelin DiBease currently leads the Purple Raiders with 74 kills (3.08 per set) and has also tallied 81 digs for the season. The Mount Union offense has been set up this season by junior Carly Stepic, as she has totaled 242 assists (10.08 per set). Defensively, the Raiders' are led by senior Allison Baird who has collected 98 digs (4.45 per set), while junior Marlee Peck has gathered 22 total blocks (0.92 per set).

Spartan Notes

Junior Karley King currently ranks fourth in the University Athletic Association with 3.20 kills per set and third with 80 kills, while junior Brianna Lemon ranks fifth in kills per set (3.08) and kills (77)…Sophomore Katie Kaminski ranks third in the UAA with a .388 hitting percentage and junior Haley Sims ranks third with 1.25 blocks per set…Last season, the Spartans suffered a 3-0 setback to Mount Union…Brianna Lemon paced the squad with nine kills, while Anna Jaskoviak, Karley King and Haley Sims each chipped in eight kills apiece…The Spartans are averaging 13.84 kills per set, 12.96 assists per set and 2.28 blocks per set this season.
