The Case Western Reserve University women's volleyball team will open its 2018 campaign with a four-game tournament at the 40th-Annual Ohio Northern Tournament in Ada, Ohio. The Spartans play Defiance College on Friday, August 31st at 2:00 PM, then take on Thomas More College at 4:00 PM. CWRU will then play two more matches on Saturday, September 1st. The first match is against host and 19th-ranked Ohio Northern University at 12:30 PM and the second is against Bluffton University at 2:30 PM.

The Spartans will open their 2018 season on Friday, following a 19-12 finish to the 2017 campaign. CWRU is slated to return 17 players from last year's team, including all six from the starting rotation.
The Spartans are under the leadership of Head Coach Karen Farrell who is starting her 17th season with the team. She has notched a career record of 327-228 for a .589 winning percentage, while helping to lead the team to its first NCAA Championship Tournament win in program history in 2015. Farrell is assisted by Nelson Wittenmyer, Jeff Harrah, Kim Waters and Dani Witri.
Defiance Yellow Jackets
After a 10-13 record last season, Defiance will be opening its 2018 campaign against the Spartans on Friday at 2:00 PM. The Yellow Jackets are led by seventh-year head coach Brie Brenner. She is assisted by Alicia Kalik.
This is the third-straight year that the two teams have met. In last year's meeting, the Spartans defeated Defiance 3-0.
Thomas More Saints
After a 29-6 record last season, Thomas More will be opening the campaign against Ohio Northern on Friday at 2:00 PM. The Saints are led by 12th-year head coach John Spinney. He is assisted by Katie Sullivan, Elly Ogle, Dan Wanstrath and Brynja Thompson.
CWRU and Thomas More met last season at the ONU Tournament, with the Spartans defeating the Saints 3-1.
Ohio Northern Polar Bears
Ohio Northern finished the 2017 season with a 29-6 record, including an 8-1 mark in conference play. The Polar Bears are coached by Kate Witte, who is starting her 28th-season with the team. She is assisted by Brian Hofman and Katie Kuhn.
This is the second-straight year that the two teams have met. In last year's meeting, ONU defeated the Spartans 3-1.
Bluffton will enter the 2018 season after closing out the 2017 season with a 19-11 record, including a 7-2 mark in the conference. The Beavers are coached by Steve Yarnell, who is starting his 13th year with the team. He is assisted by Lynsey Trusty.
This is the first meeting between the two schools since 2011 when the Spartans defeated Bluffton 3-0.
The Spartans have five of their last six season-opening matches, dating back to the 2012 season…Last season, CWRU fell to Ohio Northern 3-1 in their season-opener in Ada, Ohio…Brianna Lemon recorded 13 kills and Faith Ellis tallied 38 assists…Lemon was first on the team last season with 339 kills and Ellis finished first on the team with 895 assists…The Spartans averaged 12.24 kills-per set, 11.45 assists-per set and 1.47 blocks-per set last season.
