The Case Western Reserve University earned a sweep on Saturday afternoon at Horsburgh Gymnasium, as the Spartans topped the College of Wooster with scores of 25-16, 25-19 and 25-23.
With the win, CWRU improved to 17-11 on the season, while the Fighting Scots dropped to 14-14 on the campaign.
Statistically, sophomore outside hitter Brianna Lemon, sophomore outside hitter Karley King and freshman outside hitter Anna Jaskoviak each posted a team-high 10 kills, while Lemon also added a game-high 15 digs. Sophomore setter Faith Ellis led the Spartans with 40 assists.
The key moment in the match came later on after Wooster tied the third set at 21-21. Out of a timeout, the Spartans retook the lead after a kill by Lemon. After a point from each team, Briggs picked up kill to give CWRU a 24-22 advantage. The Fighting Scotts cut the lead to 24-23, but Briggs closed out the match with another kill to secure the 25-23 victory.
Briggs finished her final home match as a Spartan with five kills, including the final two kills to secure the match victory.
Wooster was led by Ksenia Blue with 10 kills and eight digs.
The Spartans will conclude their season at the 2017 University Athletic Association Championships in Atlanta, Georgia. The team will begin competition on Friday, November 3rd.
