On the first day of the University Athletic Association Round Robin #2, the Case Western Reserve University volleyball team split, with a win over Brandeis University and a loss to fourth-ranked Emory University.
The second UAA Round Robin is hosted by the University of Chicago at the Ratner Athletics Center in Chicago, Illinois.
The Spartans improve to 14-8 overall and 3-2 in the UAA, while the Judges are 10-7 overall and 0-4 in the UAA and the Eagles record is now 18-4 overall and 3-2 in the UAA.
CWRU defeated Brandeis in straight sets 25-17, 25-16 and 25-11.
Sophomore outside hitter Karley King led the Spartans with 10 kills and sophomore outside hitter Brianna Lemon and freshman outside hitter Anna Jaskoviak each contributed nine kills to the attack. Sophomore setter Faith Ellis recorded a game-high 33 assists and 16 digs. Defensively, Lemon and junior libero Karina Bondelid each 12 and 11 digs, respectively. Jaskoviak and sophomore middle hitter Haley Sims each recorded two total blocks.
Against the Eagles, CWRU fell 25-23, 25-14 and 25-15.
Lemon led the squad with seven kills and 17 digs and Ellis added 25 assists and nine digs. King contributed six kills to the attack, while Sims and freshman middle blocker Katie Kaminski added five kills apiece.
The Spartans are set to play two more matches on the second day of competition in the UAA Round Robin #2 tomorrow. The day will begin with a 1:00 p.m. ET match against the 13th-ranked University of Chicago and a 3:00 p.m. ET match against the University of Rochester (N.Y.).
