The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team received votes by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, as announced on Tuesday.
The Spartans received 16 votes in the latest poll after a 2-1 weekend at the University Athletic Association Round Robin #1.
The highlight of the weekend was a 3-1 victory over then 10th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University. CWRU defeated CMU in four sets 26-24, 25-19, 11-25 and 25-16.
Four Spartans recorded 10 or more kills throughout the match, with sophomore outside hitter Brianna Lemon leading the team with 16 kills and sophomore outside hitter Karley King contributing 14 to the attack. Sophomore setter Faith Ellis recorded a game-high 51 assists, while also tallying a team-high 23 digs.
CWRU is 13-7 overall and 2-1 in the UAA this season. The Spartans are idle this weekend and will return to action at the UAA Round Robin #2 in Chicago, Illinois on October 14-15. Seeds for the UAA Championships in Atlanta, Georgia will be determined by the records from the two round robins.
