CWRU Volleyball to Play at Oberlin; Host UAA Round Robin #1 this Weekend

The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team will travel to Oberlin, Ohio to face Oberlin College on Wednesday, September 27th at 7:30 p.m., before preparing to host the University Athletic Association Round Robin #1 on Saturday, September 30th and Sunday October 1st.

The Spartans are set to play 10th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University at 12:00 p.m. and 18th-ranked Washington (Mo.) University at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. On Sunday, CWRU will face New York University to conclude the first University Athletic Association Round Robin.

CWRU Spartans (10-6)

The Spartans won two out of the four matches played at the Carnegie Mellon Tournament this past weekend. CWRU earned a 3-0 win (25-16, 25-23 and 25-11) against Geneva College on Friday, and claimed a 3-1 victory (25-23, 23-25, 25-15 and 25-23) over Messiah College on Saturday.

Sophomore Brianna Lemon paced the squad with 40 kills over the weekend, while sophomore Haley Sims recorded 39 kills and hit .300. Sophomore Faith Ellis and freshman Jiayi Shen set up the Spartan offense, with Ellis tallying 80 assists and Shen totaling 74. Defensively, junior Noel Jeansonne had a team-high 50 digs sophomore Karley King chipped in 13 total blocks.

Oberlin Yeowomen (9-5)

The Yeowomen will enter Wednesday's match coming off a 3-0 loss to Muskingum University on Saturday afternoon. Dana Thomas recorded a team-high nine kills. Sara Chang set up the offense with 11 assists, while Emily Kelkar added 18 digs.

For the season, Oberlin has averaged 12.0 kills per set, 10.9 assists per set and 1.4 blocks per set. Lexi Mitchell leads the Yeowomen with 168 kills, while Maura Gibbs is close behind with 130. Samantha Lam sets up the offense as she has tallied 430 assists for the season. Defensively, Kelkar has totaled 173 digs, while Mitchell has contributed 120 to the team total.

#10 Carnegie Mellon Tartans (16-0)

The Tartans have averaged 13.26 kills per set, 12.50 assists per set and 2.20 blocks per set. Lauren Mueller currently leads Carnegie Mellon with 179 kills and Maia So-Holloway has set up the Tartans offense with 357 assists. Defensively, Kayla Yew has recorded a team-high 282 digs, while Sahara Aqui and Eliza Donohue have each registered 50 total blocks.

Carnegie Mellon will also face NYU and WashU during the first UAA Round Robin. They will face the Violets on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. and then conclude the weekend with a match against the Bears on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.

#18 Washington (Mo.) Bears (8-5)

The Bears have averaged 12.2 kills per set, 10.8 assists per set and 1.7 blocks per set. Ifeoma Ufondu leads Wash. U. with 164 kills and Kirby Knapp has set up the Bears offense with 218 assists. Defensively, Zoe Baxter has recorded a team-high 217 digs, while Leila King has registered 36 total blocks.

Wash. U. opens the first UAA Round Robin against NYU on Saturday at 2:00 p.m., before facing the Spartans at 4:00 p.m.

New York Violets (3-12)

The Violets have averaged 9.5 kills per set, 9.0 assists per set and 1.8 blocks per set this season. Caroline Rapp currently leads NYU with 127 kills and Zel Fortson has set up the Violets offense with 210 assists. Defensively, Nazzerine Waldon has recorded a team-high 166 digs, while Rayne Ellis has registered 42 total blocks.

New York will open the Round Robin against Wash. U. and Carnegie Mellon on Saturday, before facing the Spartans on Sunday.
