CWRU Volleyball Heads to Pittsburgh, PA for CMU Tournament

The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team will travel to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for the Carnegie Mellon University Tournament on Friday, September 22nd and Saturday, September 23rd.

The Spartans are slated to play Otterbein University at 2:00 p.m. and Geneva College at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, CWRU will face Salisbury University at 11:00 a.m. and Messiah College at 3:00 conclude the CMU Tournament.

CWRU Spartans (8-4)

The Spartans saw its three match winning streak come to a close on Wednesday night with a 3-1 loss (26-28, 25-23, 25-23 and 25-18) to Baldwin Wallace University.

Sophomore Brianna Lemon paced the squad with 16 kills, with sophomores Haley Sims and Karley King contributing 10 and nine, respectively. Sophomore setter Faith Ellis added 30 assists in the match, and junior libero Noel Jeansonne had a Spartan-best 13 digs in the match. Sims and King each chipped in three total blocks.

Otterbein Cardinals (11-0)

The Cardinals will enter Friday's match coming off a 3-1 victory against Mount Vernon Nazarene on Tuesday evening. Alana King-Mendenhall recorded a team-high 14 kills. Andrea Miller set up the offense with 48 assists, while Ashlyn Leon added 24 digs.

For the season, Otterbein has averaged 14.6 kills per set, 13.9 assists per set and 1.7 blocks per set. Hadley Sterett leads the Cardinals with 137 kills, while Morgan Lowenkamp is close behind with 126. Miller sets up the offense as she has tallied 460 assists for the season. Defensively, Leon has totaled 190 digs, while Miller has contributed 102 to the team total.

Geneva Tornadoes (3-8)

The Tornadoes have averaged 9.2 kills per set, 7.9 assists per set and 1.7 blocks per set. Erica Hughes currently leads Geneva with 117 kills and Daphne Hunsinger has set up the Tornadoes offense with 238 assists. Defensively, McKenna Shick has recorded a team-high 156 digs, while Kacey Costal has registered 29 total blocks.

Geneva will open the CMU Tournament against Mount Union on Friday, before facing the Spartans later in the day.

Salisbury Sea Gulls (10-2)

The Sea Gulls have averaged 11.66 kills per set, 9.83 assists per set and 1.54 blocks per set. Nicole Venturelli leads Salisbury with 178 kills and Alexis Howatt has set up the Sea Gulls offense with 216 assists. Defensively, Hailey Dougherty has recorded a team-high 180 digs, while Gianna Savarese has registered 33 total blocks.

Salisbury opens the CMU Tournament against Otterbein and host Carnegie Mellon on Friday, before facing the Spartans on Saturday.

Messiah Falcons (4-7)

The Falcons have averaged 11.4 kills per set, 10.7 assists per set and 14.2 digs per set. Braedyn Gallagher currently leads Messiah with 105 kills and Jennifer Rusling has set up the Falcons offense with 369 assists. Defensively, Amanda Dahlman has recorded a team-high 171 digs, while Paton Manwaring has registered 29 total blocks.

Messiah will open the CMU Tournament against host Carnegie Mellon and the College of Wooster on Friday, before facing the Spartans on Saturday.
