The Case Western Reserve volleyball team split on Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 loss against Ohio Wesleyan University and a 3-0 win over Defiance College.
The Spartans are now 2-2 overall, while the Battling Bishops are now 1-1 and the Yellow Jackets record is now 0-2 overall.
Against Ohio Wesleyan, CWRU fell 25-12, 18-25, 25-23 and 25-11.
In the high-scoring battle, sophomore outside hitter Brianna Lemon led the Spartans with 10 kills and 17 digs. Senior middle hitter Emma Briggs contributed eight kills, while sophomore Haley Sims added seven kills and a team-high four blocks. Sophomore setter Faith Ellis set the team high in assists after recording 19 total and freshman setter Jiayi Shen registered nine assists. Also in double-digits defensively, freshman outside hitter Anna Jaskoviak upped 12 and sophomore libero Christine Tamura tallied 11 total.
CWRU defeated Defiance in three sets 25-13, 25-11 and 25-23. Sims put down a team-high nine kills during the match and Briggs added eight to the Spartan total. Lemon posted six kills, while freshman outside hitter Bailey Hagedorn recorded five.
Shen tallied a career-high 17 assists and Ellis registered 15. Defensively, Lemon led the squad with eight digs and Ellis finished with seven.
The Spartans will return to action on Friday, September 8th and Saturday, September 9th as the program will co-host the annual Marcia French Invitational alongside Baldwin Wallace University. CWRU will play its first match on Friday at 5:30 p.m. against Eastern Mennonite University.
