The Case Western Reserve University women's volleyball team will play two matches in Wooster, Ohio on Saturday. The first match is against Denison University at 1:00 p.m. and the second is against the College of Wooster at 3:00 p.m.
This will be the second meeting between the Spartans and the Big Red this season. The two teams faced each other at the Bishop Invitational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University on September 16th. After dropping the first set against Denison 25-19, CWRU fought back to win the next two 25-15 and 25-16. Denison won the fourth, but the Spartans came back to win the fifth set 15-13.
CWRU and the College of Wooster will be facing each other for the first time this season.
CWRU Spartans (18-8)
The Spartans are led on the attack by freshman outside hitter Brianna Lemon, who averages 3.32 kills per set. Lemon also contributes 1.50 digs per set defensively. Sophomore setter Shannon Carroll is averaging a team-high 8.54 assists per match, while sophomore libero Karina Bondelid is tallying on average 4.12 digs per game defensively.
Denison Big Red (11-14)
The Big Red is led by junior middle hitter Leah Reinfranck who averages 3.12 kills per set. Senior outside hitter Rachele Lock also contributes to the attack with 2.70 kills per set. Junior Kaleigh Poe serves as the main setter for Denison averaging 5.87 assists per set. In the back row, junior defensive specialist Kristin Thewes averages a team-high 5.22 digs per game.
Wooster Fighting Scots (17-8)
The Fighting Scots are led by junior outside hitter Ksenia Klue who averages 2.62 kills per set as well as 1.66 digs per set. Senior middle hitter Lydia Webster also contributes to the attack with 2.45 kills per set. Junior Taylor Matthews serves as the main setter for Wooster averaging 8.09 assists per set. In the back row, sophomore libero Gabrielle Basinski averages a team-high 4.17 digs per game.
Freshman Brianna Lemon currently leads all University Athletic Association players with 345 kills and ranks third with 3.32 kills per set…Sophomore Karina Bondelid ranks third in the UAA with 428 digs and fifth with 4.12 digs per set…The Spartans are averaging 11.70 kills per set, 10.90 assists per set and 1.75 blocks per set this season.
