Case Western Reserve University freshman middle hitter Haley Sims was named University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week, after leading the Spartans to four wins in two days, hitting .500 during the stretch.
Sims finished the week with 58 kills in 100 total attacks, and led all Case Western Reserve players with a .580 hitting percentage. She recorded a season-high 15 kills against John Carroll University on Wednesday. She added eight and 14 kills in wins against Rochester Institute of Technology and Berry College on Friday. Sims registered her highest hitting percentage of the season in a 3-1 win against Defiance College as she tallied 11 kills and no errors on 15 total attacks for a .733 hitting percentage.
For the season, Sims is hitting .427 which ranks 15th in NCAA Division III women's volleyball and first in the UAA. She has totaled 71 kills, seven service aces, 21 digs and 20 block assists on the season. This was the first conference Athlete of the Week award of her career.
Sims' performance has helped the Spartans win all eight of their matches this season. Case Western Reserve will be back in action this week, as they travel to Alliance, Ohio to play the University of Mount Union at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
