The Case Western Reserve University women's volleyball team will open its 2016 campaign with a three-game tournament at the Capital / Otterbein Invitational in Bexley, Ohio. The Spartans play host Capital University on Friday, September 2nd at 7:00 PM. CWRU then plays two matches on Saturday, September 3rd. The first match is against Earlham College at 10:30 AM and the second is against Kenyon College at 12:30 PM.

The Spartans will open their 2016 season on Friday, following a 25-8 finish to the 2015 campaign, which is the most wins by the team since the 2000 campaign and the second most ever by a CWRU volleyball squad. The Spartans are slated to return eight players from last year's team, including three from the starting rotation.
The Spartans are under the leadership of Head Coach Karen Farrell who is starting her 15th season with the team. She has notched a career record of 287-206 for a .582 winning percentage, while helping to lead the team to its first NCAA Championship Tournament win in program history in 2015. Farrell is assisted by Nelson Wittenmyer, Jeff Harrah, Kim Waters, Katie Best and Dani Witri.
Capital finished the 2015 year with a 6-23 record, including a 1-8 mark in conference play. The Crusaders are coached by Leah Farrell, who is starting her first year with the team. She is assisted by Leanne Schaefer, Kati Weilbacher and Jamie Bayer.
This is the fourth-straight year that these two teams have met. In the previous three meetings, the Spartans defeated Capital 3-0 in each of the matches.
After a 5-22 record last season, Earlham will be opening its 2016 campaign against Capital on Friday at 5:00 PM. The Saints are led by second-year head coach Lauren Crump. She is assisted by Hayley Kirby. Earlham returns nine letter winners in 2016.
This is the first meeting between the two schools in the past eight seasons.
Kenyon will enter the 2016 season after coming off their first winning season since 1990. The Ladies finished the 2015 year with a 15-13 record, including a 6-4 mark in home contests. Kenyon is coached by Amanda Krampf, who is starting her second year with the team. She is assisted by Carter Cassell and Elly Farnell.
This is the third straight-year that the two teams have met at the Capital / Otterbein Invitational. In the previous two meetings, the Spartans defeated Kenyon 3-0 in each of the matches.
The Spartans have won their last four season-opening matches, dating back to the 2012 season…Last season, CWRU defeated John Carroll 3-2 in their season opener in University Heights, Ohio…Marian Barton recorded 10 kills and Kayla Pfaff collected four solo blocks…Barton was third on the team last season with 313 kills and Pfaff finished second on the team with 76 total blocks…The Spartans averaged 12.71 kills-per set, 11.92 assists-per set and 1.81 blocks-per set last season.
