The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team split on Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 win over The College of Wooster and a 3-1 loss against Bethany College.
The Spartans are now 22-6 overall and remain 5-2 in the UAA, while the Fighting Scots are now 12-14 and the Bison's record is now 27-8 overall.
CWRU defeated Wooster in three sets 25-17, 23-16 and 25-21. Junior outside hitter Marian Barton put down a team-high 11 kills during the match and senior outside hitter Carolyn Bogart added nine to the Spartan total. Senior middle hitter Haley Kauffman posted six kills and totaled five blocks. In addition, freshman setter Shannon Carroll added three kills and seven total attacks, hitting .429.
Carroll set the team-high in assists after recording 17 total and senior setter Robyn Marks registered 12 assists. Freshman defensive specialist Andrea Lu led the Spartans with 13 digs and senior libero Katie Best finished with 11.
Against the Bison, CWRU fell 25-22, 26-24, 23-25 and 25-21.
In the high-scoring battle, Kauffman led the Spartans tying a season-high 17 kills for a .372 hitting percentage over the match. Bogart recorded a double-double having contributed 11 kills and 17 digs. Carroll tallied 36 assists as well as 14 digs and four kills. Best led the Spartans with a season-high 32 digs in the back. Also in double-digits defensively, freshman specialist Karina Bondelid upped 17 and Lu tallied 15 total.
CWRU will conclude their season at the 2015 University Athletic Association Championships in Rochester, New York. The team will begin competition in the quarterfinal match against the University of Rochester on Friday, November 6 at 2:00 p.m.
