OBERLIN, Ohio – The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team fell to host Oberlin College in four sets on Wednesday night at the Jesse Philips Physical Education Center.

The Spartans drop to 15-9 overall, while the Yeowomen improve to 9-15 by set scores of 25-21, 16-25, 25-14 and 26-24.

CWRU had won eight consecutive matches versus Oberlin dating back to 2008 with sweeps in each of the last six meetings.

The two teams were tied at 20 in the first set before Oberlin claimed five of the final fix points. In the second, CWRU broke a 14-14 tie with an 8-0 run. The third set saw an early Spartan lead evaporate, and a back-and-forth final game fell in favor of the hosts.

Statistically, sophomore rightside hitter Marian Barton (Custer Park, Ill./Reed-Custer) posted a team-high nine kills versus just two errors in 16 attempts (.438). Sophomore setter Lauren Gurd (Farmington Hills, Mich./Detroit Country Day) led in assists with 13.

On defense, junior outside hitter Katie Best (Sewickley, Pa./North Allegheny) totaled 22 digs.

Oberlin was led by Ave Spencer with 13 kills and 13 digs.

The Spartans are back in action this Saturday, October 25 versus Heidelberg University at 4:00 p.m. in Tiffin.
