ATLANTA – The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team concluded the 2014 University Athletic Association Round Robin #1 with a 3-0 victory versus the University of Rochester (N.Y.) on Sunday morning at the Woodruff P.E. Center. CWRU was victorious by scores of 25-15, 25-22 and 25-18.
The Spartans improve to 11-7 overall and 1-2 in the UAA, while the Yellowjackets drop to 9-12 (0-3 UAA).
In the attack, junior rightside hitter Danielle Witri (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood) matched her career best (from yesterday) with 11 kills. Freshman Jessica Justice (St. Augustine, Fla./St. Augustine) and sophomore Lauren Gurd (Farmington Hills, Mich./Detroit Country Day) split the setting duties with 17 and 14 assists, respectively.
Defensively, sophomore libero Julie Colaianni (North Olmsted, Ohio/St. Joseph Academy) posted 15 digs.
Rochester was led by Xiaoyi Li with 26 assists and 11 digs.
CWRU is now idle until its final home match of the season versus Hiram College on Wednesday, October 14 at 7:00 p.m. at Horsburgh Gymnasium. The second and final UAA Round Robin is set for the following weekend in Chicago on Saturday and Sunday, October 18-19.
