ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team saw its five-match win streak snapped in a 3-0 loss at No. 7 nationally ranked University of Mount Union on Wednesday at the MAAC.
The Spartans, now 6-3, fell by scores of 25-17, 25-15 and 25-15 as the Purple Raiders stayed undefeated at 6-0.
In a match where the Spartans were limited to 21 kills, sophomore middle hitter Kayla Pfaff (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) posted the top total with four in just seven attempts (.429). Setting duties were split amongst junior Robyn Marks (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Mott) and sophomore Lauren Gurd (Farmington Hills, Mich./Detroit Country Day) with eight assists apiece.
Defensively, sophomore libero Kristen Mitchell (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) matched a career best with 21 digs.
Mount Union was led by Kara Barger with 10 kills and Lauren Mastroine with 15 digs.
The Spartans are back in action this weekend with one match each on both Friday and Saturday, September 12-13 at the John Carroll Invitational in University Heights. The team opens the tournament against Kenyon College at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
