Spartan Volleyball Wraps Up Regular Season with Sweep of Wooster

CLEVELAND – The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team closed out the home and regular season portions of the 2013 schedule with a 3-0 sweep of The College of Wooster on Saturday afternoon at Horsburgh Gymnasium.

The Spartans level their record at 15-15 heading into next weekend's University Athletic Association Championship Tournament in Waltham, Massachusetts. The Fighting Scots end their regular season at 9-21.

For the match, Case hit .283 as a team and was led by sophomore middle hitter Haley Kauffman (Hartville, Ohio/Lake) with nine kills versus just one error in 13 attempts (.615). Sophomore outside hitter Carolyn Bogart (New Berlin, Wis./New Berlin Eisenhower) and freshman outside Isabelle Wagner (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon) also finished in double figures in the attack with 12 and 11 kills, respectively.

The setting duties were split with sophomore Robyn Marks (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Mott) totaling 22, and freshman Lauren Gurd (Farmington Hills, Mich./Detroit Country Day) contributing 20.

Defensively, Bogart posted 15 digs for her first double-double of the season. Sophomore libero Katie Best (Sewickley, Pa./North Allegheny) also finished with 15.

Wooster was led by Erica Skillman with eight kills and Kaitlin Banko with 13 digs.

The Spartans (2-5 UAA) will open next weekend's league championship in Boston versus No. 6 nationally Emory University (Ga.) at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 8. The Eagles will be Case's eighth nationally ranked opponent this season as well as seventh ranked inside the top 12.
