MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team lost in four to No. 12 nationally ranked Wittenberg University but rebounded to sweep Allegheny College in tri-match action on Saturday afternoon at the David V. Wise Center.
The Spartans move to 14-15 overall heading into the regular season finale next Saturday, November 2 versus The College of Wooster at 1:00 p.m. at Horsburgh Gymnasium in Cleveland.
Versus Wittenberg (18-8), the Spartans fell by scores of 25-13, 21-25, 25-17 and 25-13. Freshman outside hitters Isabelle Wagner (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) and sophomore outside hitter Carolyn Bogart (New Berlin, Wis./New Berlin Eisenhower) led the Spartan attack with 10 and nine kills, respectively. Freshman Lauren Gurd (Framington Hills, Mich./Detroit Country Day) and sophomore Robyn Marks (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Mott) split the setting duties with 21 and 13 assists, respectively.
On the defensive side of the net, second-year libero Katie Best (Sewickley, Pa./North Allegheny) led the team with 20 digs, while Bogart contributed 15.
The Tigers were led by Andrea Behling and Camila Quinones with 15 kills each.
Versus Allegheny (8-17), the Spartans won by scores of 25-20, 25-16 and 25-23. Once again, it was Wagner who led the Spartan attack as she had a team-high eight kills. Bogart was next with seven, and rookie right side hitter Marian Barton (Custer Park, Ill./Reed-Custer) contributed five.
Defensively, freshman specialist Sam Loebbaka (Mount Prospect, Ill./Mount Prospect) led the team with 10 digs. Marks contributed nine digs and set the tone offensively with a team high 16 assists.
Following next Saturday's match versus Wooster, the Spartans (2-5 in the University Athletic Association) head to Waltham, Massachusetts as the No. 6 seed for the UAA Championship Tournament on November 8-9.
